There are three ways to register for RAIN 2008; choose one of the following:
RAIN is an annual ride across the State of Indiana sponsored by the
Bloomington Bicycle Club. Its 160-mile length runs mostly on the Historic National Route 40, an older divided
four-lane road with light traffic. It has gentle rolling hills. You
should be able to average at least 12 to 14 mph for over 11 hours.
Riders MUST wear helmets and must obey all Indiana
traffic laws. This includes stopping at all stop signs and red
lights. You must finish your ride by 9:00 pm (dark) to be an official
finisher of RAIN. This is a maximum of a 14-hour ride. Rider numbers
will be provided.
If you plan to participate in RAIN, you will need to arrange your own vehicle support or contract for transport with Mark Robinson. (See Transportation below.)
Massage therapy by Glenn will again be available at the end of the ride. To reserve a time, go to www.eventsbikerideservices.com. Otherwise, sign up for a time when you arrive at the Earlham College campus in Richmond. Glenn is offering a special price of $5 off his normal 30-minute rate.
For more details on the ride, including rest stops, please read the Rider and Personal Support Vehicle Information Sheet carefully for important information on safety, parking, the RAIN start on Illiana Road, rest stops, lunch and the RAIN finish at Earlham College.
Mark your calendars! From July 7-12, challenge yourself with five
century rides over five days. On day six, join 1,000 other bicyclists on the Ride Across INdiana (RAIN) to ride from Terre Haute back to your original starting point in Richmond. That's why we call this
ride RAINSTORM: Ride Across INdiana--Same Thing, Only Ride More.
Visit http://triri.org/storm.html for more information.
Read these articles from the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association for guidelines on how to prepare for RAIN.
Participating in organized long distance cycling events, such as the June Touring Ride In Rural Indiana (TRIRI), is a great way to prepare for the RAIN ride.
RAIN jersey designs and RAIN caps have proven very popular.
See the 2008
design here.
Sleeveless jerseys will again be available if ordered by May 1st, 2008.
Fees for RAIN 2008 are $35 per rider for online registration (Active.com) or $40 per rider for mail-in registration up to and including June 14, 2008. A late fee of $10 will be added for entries dated June 15, 2008 and later.
You may pick up rider packets on Friday between 3:00 and 10:00 pm EDT at the Drury Inn, or on Saturday morning early at the Drury Inn only. Fees are 80% refundable until June 14, 2008; thereafter, fees are non-refundable.
